Variations on the Projective Central Limit Theorem
This expository article states and proves four, concrete, projective, central limit theorems. The results are known or suspected to be true by experts who are familiar with the more general central limit theorem for convex bodies, and related theory. Here we consider only four types of high dimensional geometric objects: spheres, balls, cubes, and boundaries of cubes. Each is capable of transfo...
متن کاملThe Local Limit Theorem: A Historical Perspective
The local limit theorem describes how the density of a sum of random variables follows the normal curve. However the local limit theorem is often seen as a curiosity of no particular importance when compared with the central limit theorem. Nevertheless the local limit theorem came first and is in fact associated with the foundation of probability theory by Blaise Pascal and Pierre de Fer...
متن کاملthe effect of task cognitive complexity and time limit on the performance of the learners with different proficiency levels in second language writing skill
this study investigated the effects of manipulating the cognitive complexity of tasks along +/- few elements and the time limits on l2 learners writing performance. to conduct the study, 60 iranian efl learners with two levels of proficiency, low and high intermediate, were selected and assigned to three groups based on the time devoted to task completion. the participants performed both a simp...
15 صفحه اولNotes on Projective Differential Geometry
Projective differential geometry was initiated in the 1920s, especially by Élie Cartan and Tracey Thomas. Nowadays, the subject is not so well-known. These notes aim to remedy this deficit and present several reasons why this should be done at this time. The deeper underlying reason is that projective differential geometry provides the most basic application of what has come to be known as the ...
متن کاملThe Kolmogorov–riesz Compactness Theorem
We show that the Arzelà–Ascoli theorem and Kolmogorov compactness theorem both are consequences of a simple lemma on compactness in metric spaces. Their relation to Helly’s theorem is discussed. The paper contains a detailed discussion on the historical background of the Kolmogorov compactness theorem.
